Participation in the Conference

Andrei Yakovlev, the Head of the Institute for Industrial and Market Studies, took part in the Conference on Eastern Europe's New Conservatives: Varieties and Explanations from Poland to Russia, which was held in Berlin on February 9-10, 2017.

Another session of the joint Research Seminar on Diversity and Development

Elena Podkolzina, Assistant Professor, Department of Applied Economics, and Senior Research Fellow, Center for Institutional Studies at HSE, presented her paper "Corruption perception and competition in public procurement: empirical evidence from Russian regions" (co-authored with P. Detkova and A. Tkachenko) on January 31th, 2017.

Ekaterina presented her paper “Bridging or Bonding? Preferences for Redistribution and Social Capital in Russia” (co-authored with A. Govorun and D. Ivanov) at IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca on December 24th, 2017.

Scientific Report "Agglomeration effects in Russian manufacturing"

HSE International Center for the Study of Institutions and Development (ICSID) and NES Center for the Study of Diversity and Social Interactions held another session of their Research Seminar on Diversity and Development. The event was held jointly with the seminar “Political Economy”.

Timothy Frye, ICSID academic supervisor and the chair of the Political Science Department at Columbia University, appeared on the American TV-channel NY1 last week

Tim joined Errol Louis, the host of "Inside City Hall" - a nightly political show on NY1, to discuss a report from the Obama administration that accused Vladimir Putin of ordering a hidden campaign to influence America's presidential election in favor of Donald Trump. Tim also offered some insights into the current state of affairs in Russia and relationship between the USA and Russia nowadays.

Science management practices as a study object

On 8 December ISSEK hosted a discussion of best R&D and/or S&T management practices applied by academic organisations. Leading science, technology and education experts discussed conceptual models of R&D management, analysed various aspects of measuring academic organisations’ performance, and debated whether it would be at all possible to develop any universal success recipes.

R&D management model is changing

Discussions at the “Foresight and STI Policy” conference the HSE Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge is hosting for the sixth year in a row, highlight the changes in approaches to studying the current state and expected development trends in the S&T sphere. Major trends of Russian and international Foresight studies include deep integration of their results into science, technology and innovation (STI) policies at all levels, growing number (and complexity) of analytical techniques, and involvement of new actors.
