From February 4 to March 20, the School of Linguistics hosted a series of lectures on the foundations of language evolution. The course was read by Damian Blasi, the member of Linguistic Convergence Laboratory, an author and co-author of works on fundamental problems in creole linguistics, linguistic symbolism and the history of linguistic diversity. In his lectures Damian Blasi considered both the main aspects of the theory of the language evolution, as well as more narrow topics, such as the structure of animal communication systems and their differences from human language, the time of the speech appearance in humans, biological and genetic foundations of language ability, multilingualism, and models of linguistic evolution.

On Wednesday, February 17, the National Research University Higher School of Economics hosted a regular meeting of the All-Moscow seminar "Mathematical methods for analyzing optimal solutions in economics, business and politics".
At the recent seminar of the HSE International Laboratory for Social Integration Research, Isaac Olumayowa Oni, HSE doctoral student and lab research assistant, spoke about African migration to Russia. In an interview with HSE News Service, Isaac discussed his research and talked about what it’s like to study at HSE and live in Moscow.
From October 2020 to January 2021 there was online Arctic Opportunity Explorers Programme run by Sustainia (a global sustainability consulting company, headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark), HelloScience, and participating universities, with support from the Nordic Council of Ministers. Research assistant of DeCAn Yulia Skrupskaya took part in this programme.
A new Oxford Handbook dedicated to the languages of the Caucasus appeared this month. It contains several contributions from members of the Linguistic Convergence Laboratory.
