Global Technology Trends

The publication presents results of the project “Global Technology Trends Monitoring” being implemented by the HSE ISSEK as a part of HSE Basic Research Programme. The objective of the project is to identify key trends in S&T with the potentials of significant impact on social and economic development across the globe and in Russia.

Social Demand for New Technologies

Russians turn out to be rather conservative in their perception of new technologies, innovative products and services, and willingness to use. That was discovered in the course of a survey conducted by the ISSEK experts in the scope of the Monitoring Innovative Behaviour of the Population study (2015-2016). The results are presented in the current issue of the Science, Technology and Innovation newsletter.

The report presents the results of the EDB Centre for Integration Studies’ ongoing research project “EDB Integration Barometer”. In 2016, 8,500 people from 7 CIS countries answered about 20 questions concerning the Eurasian integration and various facets of economic, political, and sociocultural cooperation in the CIS region.

The chances of getting a permanent job, of getting a good position at a university or research centre depend not only on one’s academic degree but also on one’s experience, competencies and portfolio.

Russian User-Innovators: What and Why

Many Russians practice user innovation by developing their own inventions for use in everyday life, recreation, sports, etc. According to a study by Fursov and Turner conducted as part of the HSE ISSEK Monitoring Survey of Innovative Behaviour of the Population, the estimated share of user-innovators in Russia may be as much as 10%, which is substantially higher than in many other countries.

of those who are currently working toward Candidate of Science and Doctor of Science degrees in Russia are younger than 40 years old. The Monitoring of the Labour Market for Highly Qualified R&D Personnel survey was conducted across Russia in September-October 2015 based on a representative sampling. In total, 2,150 people were surveyed.

This information came from a survey of 3,054 continuing education students from 57 of Russia’s territorial entities that was conducted in 2013 as part of the HSE’s Monitoring of Education Markets and Organisations (MEMO)”, which is coordinated by ISSEK Centre for Statistics and Monitoring of Education.
