In October, a two-day seminar entitled ‘Ageing and frailty in Norway and Russia’ was held by HSE University’s International Laboratory for Population and Health. In addition to purely demographic results concerning the changing age structure of the population and growing life expectancy, most presentations were devoted to the comparative assessment of physical and cognitive status among elderly people, cardiovascular aging, as well as social and medical support for the elderly. We spoke with the organizers and participants of the seminar about their research findings and the implications for society and public health.
This fall the Linguistic Convergence Laboratory will organize a free online course on the East Caucasian (alias Nakh-Daghestanian) language family. The course will start on November 3.
One of the events that opened the second day of the conference was the round table 'Higher education for indigenous peoples: international and Russian experience.' Despite the critically early time, the discussion of problem areas and of the constructive experience in creating an educational environment in universities that supports cultural diversity was rich and lively. The presented reports discussed the value orientations of the development of higher education for indigenous peoples, the problems of adaptation of indigenous peoples to the learning environment, the strengths and limitations of various organizational forms and educational practices.
On October 20, at the VI International scientific and practical conference 'Inclusive Education and Society: Strategies, Practices and Resources,' a panel discussion Inclusive Education in Post-Soviet Countries: Based on the Results of an International Survey' was held.
On October 20, a panel discussion "Civic participation and cross-sector partnerships as drivers of inclusion" was held within the VI International scientific and practical conference "Inclusive Education and Society: Strategies, Practices and Resources."
The WCRC working group on workplace inclusion and diversity management organized its own panel at the 10th World Congress of the International Council of Central and East European Studies.
On 20-21 october 2021 the VI International scientific and practical conference 'Inclusive Education and Society: Strategies, Practices and Resources' will take place. With more than 4800 participants registered to the conference for the first time it will be held in the mixed format: both online and offline.
In early October, members of the Linguistic Convergence Laboratory published a paper in Language . Language is the flagship journal of the Linguistic Society of America and one of the most respected general linguistics journals in the world; perhaps the most prestigious one. Since the journal’s launch in 1925, it has seen the publication of only two papers whose first author is a researcher affiliated with a Russian university or institute.
The Genetics of Cardiovascular Diseases Consortium, the first of this kind in Russia, was unveiled at HSE University at Cardiogenetics and Bioinformatics: 2021 Realities, an interdisciplinary forum. The consortium aims to compile a centralized and complete catalogue of the Russian population’s genomic mutations.
