Participation in the conference "Dynamics in Siberia"

At 1-6 of March Novosibirsk hosted an international conference "Dynamics in Siberia", which was attended by the laboratory of dynamical systems and applications staff and students of the Faculty of Informatics, Mathematics and Computer Science.

IOS Regensburg funding support

IOS Regensburg Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies offers a funding support (from 4 to 6 months) to recent PhD graduates with their research projects. The institute invites young scholars with projects in the fields of history, economics and political science.

Conference “Social dynamics. Inequalities, integration, mobility and migration” organized by the Budapest Center for Social Sciences (Hungarian Academy of Sciences Center of Excellence) took place on November 16-17 online. The purpose of the conference was to gain a clearer picture of social shifts and immobility in the post-millennium international context.

Since June 22, 2020, Professor Paolo Rosso has officially taken the responsibilities of SCILA’s academic supervisor. Paolo Rosso is a full professor at the department of Information Systems and Computation of Polytechnical university of Valencia, Spain, where he also heads Natural Language Engineering research group within Pattern Recognition and Human Language Technologies Research Centre (PRHLT).

June 18, 2020 at the on-line seminar of IL SIR, Andrey Kozlov the leading researcher of the laboratory, gave presentation ‘How Body Size Follows Social Changes in Arctic Generations: the Case of Western Siberia’. Researchers from Russia and Canada took part in the seminar. Discussants: Dr.Tracey Galloway (Department of Anthropology, University of Toronto Mississauga) and Prof.Elena Tarasenko (Higher School of Economics).

Lingtypology – the package for linguistic mapping and typology – is four years old.

Until four years ago there was no simple tool for linguists to mark a set of points on a map with different colors. A point corresponded to a language, and its color corresponded to a linguistic feature of the language. This inspired George Moroz, of HSE’s Linguistic Convergence Laboratory and School of Linguistics, to create a new software product that turned out to be very popular: lingtypology.

On May 29, 2020 a junior research fellow at the laboratory Nikita Bolshakov made a report on the topic ‘The Problems of Professional Education for Deaf and Hearing-Impaired Students’ during the joint online seminar of the IL SIR and The Research group on disability anthropology of the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of RAS.
