John W. Berry (Chief Research Fellow, CSCR) has been elected to the Royal Society of Canada (RSC), one of the highest academic honors for Canadian scholars in arts, humanities, and sciences (the RSC is equivalent to the National Academy in some other countries).

The Genetics of Cardiovascular Diseases Consortium, the first of this kind in Russia, was unveiled at HSE University at Cardiogenetics and Bioinformatics: 2021 Realities, an interdisciplinary forum. The consortium aims to compile a centralized and complete catalogue of the Russian population’s genomic mutations.

We are deeply saddened to announce that on May 8, 2021, at the age of 86 after a long-term struggle with illness, Ronald Inglehart, the co-founder of the Laboratory for Comparative Social Research, has passed away.

On April 23, the deputy director of CSCR Professor Klaus Boehnke turned 70 years old. The staff of the Center congratulates Professor Boehnke on his birthday!

On Tuesday, March 30, the National Research University Higher School of Economics hosted the seminar "Mathematical Economics".

From February 4 to March 20, the School of Linguistics hosted a series of lectures on the foundations of language evolution. The course was read by Damian Blasi, the member of Linguistic Convergence Laboratory, an author and co-author of works on fundamental problems in creole linguistics, linguistic symbolism and the history of linguistic diversity. In his lectures Damian Blasi considered both the main aspects of the theory of the language evolution, as well as more narrow topics, such as the structure of animal communication systems and their differences from human language, the time of the speech appearance in humans, biological and genetic foundations of language ability, multilingualism, and models of linguistic evolution.

In Russia, 2021 was declared the Year of Science and Technology. HSE has always paid special attention to the development of science, and more than 40 international laboratories have played an important role in the development of the university as a world research centre. One of the University’s first such laboratories was theRonald F. Inglehart Laboratory for Comparative Social Research (LCSR), named after its academic supervisor at the time, American sociologist and political scientist Ronald Inglehart. HSE News Service spoke with LCSR Laboratory Head and professor of sociology Eduard Ponarin (HSE – St. Petersburg) about the Laboratory’s work over the past decade.
