On April 15, 2022, Elena Iarskaia-Smirnova took part at the conference "An anxious society and the (im)possibilities of solidarity", organized by the Sociological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the St. Petersburg Association of Sociologists SPAS, panel "Feelings, emotions and boundaries: a psychotherapeutic turn in modern Russia" with a report on the topic "'While leaving, I'm still waiting at the door, because I'm worried’. Vibrating Boundaries in the Relations between Social Workers and Clients in Caring Practices" together with Valentina Yarskaya-Smirnova.

Medical advances are causing a gradual increase in average life expectancy. However, this comes at a price, as the number of cases of dementia and other neurodegenerative diseases grows with age. Researchers from HSE University (Russia) and Northumbria University (UK) have found that bilingualism can slow down and mitigate the course of age-related changes in the human brain. The study was published in Frontiers in Psychology.

On March 30 Andrey Nevryuev (PhD, Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Social Sciences and Mass Communications, Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation) took part in the "Culture matters" research seminar with the report "What are young people in Russia proud of and ashamed of?: The role of basic individual values".

The competition is open to HSE University research units planning to conduct joint projects with academic institutions, research organisations and state academic centres of the Russian Federation. Applications are open until May 20, 2022.

Researchers from HSE University have shown how the brain works differently depending on whether a subject is dealing with common (shared) or private natural resources. The ventral striatum—the so-called pleasure centre—plays a significant role in this process. The study has been published by Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience. 

A workshop dedicated to the inclusion of children and youth in post-socialist countries was held at the International Laboratory for Social Integration Research on March 2, 2022. It discussed drafts of two research articles being prepared for a special issue of the journal "Children and Youth Services Review".

Chief Researcher, Professor Arkady Shanenko made a presentation at the prestigious International symposium "Nanophysics and Nanoelectronics", which was held in Nizhny Novgorod in March 2022.

On March 3 Maria Bultseva (PhD, Research Fellow, Center for Sociocultural Research, Lecturer, Department of Psychology, National Research University Higher School of Economics) took part in the "Culture matters" research seminar with the report "Creativity in intercultural communication: originality or relevance?".

On February 17 Dmitrii Kashirsky (PhD, Professor, Department of Psychology, Russian State Social University) took part in the "Culture matters" research seminar with the report "Personal values of Russian and American students: The subjective reality of culture".

Research Assistant at the International Labratory for Population and Health Research, PhD student at the Vishnevsky Institute of Demography, Marina Vergeles, had the article in the "Demographic Review" published.
