International Staff Internships at HSE
At HSE the beginning of September marked not only only the beginning of classes for students, but also time when HSE International Cooperation Office hosted two international colleagues for their traineeships. Ms Veronika Haag from Brazil and Liudmila Kuzminova from Italy.
Ms Haag is a Coordinator of the Networks and International Programmes Section at Office of International Affairs of Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil (UFMG). Veronika visited HSE in the framework of the Russian-Brazilian exchanges for administrative staff programme which was initiated by 5-100 Russian Academic Excellence project in June 2015. In the second part of September, 2015, HSE International Cooperation Office manager Alyona Sutormina will also visit Federal University of Minas Gerais in Brazil both to share HSE experience and to learn about Brazilian university's best practices in international cooperation. During Veronika’s visit potential areas for partnership development and preliminary agenda for HSE delegation visit to UFMG were discussed. On 24 September 2015, Vice-rector Dr. Sergei Erofeev and Dr. Mikhail Komarov will be visiting UFMG to discuss potential areas of cooperation and sign the Agreement on Cooperation between our universities. Presentation on UFMG made by Ms Haag, as well as report on Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) made by Ms Fernanda Soares Cardozo, responsible for coordinating outgoing undergraduate mobility with UFRGS partner universities and hosted by HSE International Student Support Unit, demonstrated the main goals, strategy and achievements of these Brazilian universities.
Liudmila Kuzminova was representing Internships and Career Office, University Ca Foscari of Venice, Italy. Cooperation between HSE and Ca’Foscari University of Venice started in 2012 with Agreement on Cooperation and Student Exchange and has been strengthening each year through joint staff visits, intensive student exchanges and other academic initiatives. In addition, HSE now works with 11 Italian partners, with whom 18 agreements have already been signed, 6 of those referring to student exchange.
During their visit, the colleagues took part in working meetings with HSE colleagues from International Cooperation Office and Office of Internationalization, Centre for Alumni Affairs, Career Development Centre in order to discuss their managerial structure and organization of activities and to acquire knowledge of new managerial procedures of the international mobility, organization of career services and to create the basis for the bilateral collaboration in fields of common interest.
The visit outcomes include the following proposals for furthering collaboration between our universities:
- development of a cooperation plan involving student internships at the partner universities as well as Russian, Italian and Brazilian companies depending on the students profile and internship places offers;
- establishing closer cooperation links with HSE Alumni and Career units;
- addressing companies interested in hosting Italian/Brazilian and/or Russian students and graduates in Italy /Brazil/ Russian Federation for Internships and /or job opportunities;
- promotion and creating of a special programme on Doing Business in Russia with internships in companies in Russia based on the relevant HSE’s educational module, etc.
Without doubt such visits help further partnerships between HSE and foreign universities and expand them to new cooperation areas.
