Visit by the German Delegation Headed by President of University of Würzburg
On 16th March 2017 the German delegation headed by Prof. Dr. Alfred Forchel, President of University of Würzburg visited HSE to discuss cooperation plans and prospects. The cooperation builds on the long-standing research relationship in Physics involving Professor Forchel and Russian colleagues, in the first instance. Such specialists from the Institute of Solid State Physics RAS as Prof. Dr. Vladimir Kulakovskii, Head of RAS Joint Department with the Institute of Solid State Physics RAS for Condensed Matter Physics (Faculty of Physics) and corresponding member of RAS, Members of the Russian Academy of Sciences Prof. Dr. Vladislav Timofeev and Prof. Dr. Igor Kukushkin, as well as Prof. Dr. Mikhail Trunin, Dean of Faculty of Physics have been working together with Prof. Dr. Alfred Forchel since 1990. In 2016 Prof. Dr. Alfred Forchel was elected a Foreign Member of RAS.
During the visit President of University of Würzburg Prof. Dr. Alfred Forchel and Rector of HSE Prof. Yaroslav Kuzminov signed the Agreement for Academic Exchanges and Cooperation which gives a promising start for new academic and research collaboration in physics and other areas of mutual interest university-wide. The German delegation was also represented by Prof. Dr. Thomas Höllmann, President of Bavarian Academy of Science, Dr. Christoph Parchmann, Director of International Affairs at Department IX.5 (Bavarian State Ministry of Education, Science and the Arts), Mr. Nikolas Djukić, Director of BAYHOST - Bavarian Academic Center for Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe, and Mr. Michael Dobis, Head of the Science Department of the German Embassy in Moscow.
Alexander Balyshev, Director of HSE Centre for Fundamental Studies briefly presented statistics on projects of his Centre and research areas involved. Ilya Dolmatov, Deputy Directorof Office for Research and Development and Director of Institute of Pricing and Regulation of Natural Monopolies introduced some examples of his work and invited University of Würzburg to joint research projects.
Natalia Guseva, Professor of School of Business Administration, Faculty of Business and Management and Director of HSE-DAAD Programme “Russland in der Praxis” presented the program and expressed her interest in cooperation with BAYHOST. Dirk Meissner also introduced his program in Governance of Science, Technology and Innovation, and Sergey Silantiev invited students from University of Würzburg to English-taught programs of HSE Faculty of Computer Science.
The parties exchanged their ideas for future collaboration. The meeting was organized by the HSE Office for International Cooperation that will keep in touch with University of Würzburg and relevant HSE faculties on further cooperation.
