Visit by Professor Nick Mansfield (Macquarie University, Australia)
On 21st March 2017 the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) was organizing the Research Management Workshop at the Residence of H.E.Excellency Ambassador of Australia in Moscow, where Professor Igor Agamirzian, HSE Vice President delivered a speech on Information Technologies as a Platform for Building R&D Partnerships for Engineering Education at HSE. Vice President was speaking about transforming a field-specific institution into a comprehensive university and presented a concept of education in engineering at HSE.
The next day, on 22nd March 2017 Professor Nick Mansfield, Dean of Higher Degree Research at Macquarie University, Australia came to HSE to discuss potential opportunities for research collaboration and, particularly, Cotutelle in philology, computer science, physics with HSE.
Macquarie University is a public research university based in Sydney, founded in 1964. MQ scholars have been cooperating with the Russian Academy of Sciences on joint publications and research projects for a long time and would be pleased to establish strong collaboration and communication with HSE as well. MQ strategic context is to accelerate world-leading research performance, prepare world-ready higher degree research candidates, prepare world-ready higher degree research candidates, and deliver research with world-changing impact. Macquarie University has received 5 QS stars in research, internationalization, teaching etc., and is ranked 42 in QS World Rankings by Subject in linguistics in 2017. Macquarie University is the leading university in Australia with regards to Cotutelle* and joint PhD programs.
The representatives from HSE doctoral schools in philology, computer science, and physics gave a brief introduction of study tracks of the schools and confirmed their interest in cooperation with Macquarie University via cotutelle, as well as through research projects and exchange of visiting professors. Ilya Dolmatov, Deputy Directorof Office for Research and Development andDirector of Institute of Pricing and Regulation of Natural Monopolies has briefly presented statistics on projects of his Institute and research areas involved, and invited Macquarie University to joint research projects.
The meeting was organized by the HSE Office for International Cooperationtogether with the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) that will keep in touch with Macquarie University and relevant HSE departments on further cooperation.
*Cotutelle is a joint supervision on the doctoral degree level. The programme originated in France, hence the term cotutelle (as in co-tutoring).
