Since 2008 – student of the historical department of the Moscow state university, chair of Russian contemporary history. In 2013 defended his diploma thesis “The Red Army servicemen’s special checkup system by the state security bodies in 1941-1945”. Scientific adviser – PhD N. Petrov. Since 2013 – post-graduate student, dissertation topic: “Checkup of the Red Army servicemen’s, returning from captivity and encirclement, 1941-1945”. Scientific adviser – Doctor of Science, professor O. Khlevniuk.

‘The Past Is Never Dead. It's Not Even Past’

This summer, the HSE Centre for the History and Sociology of World War II and Its Consequences was reorganized to become the HSE Institute for Advanced Soviet and Post-Soviet Studies. Oleg Budnitskii, Doctor of Historical Sciences, head of the Centre and director of the Institute, talked to the HSE News Service about the new division.
