Oscar Wilde. Aubrey Beardsley. The View from Russia
An exhibition entitled ‘Oscar Wilde. Aubrey Beardsley. The View from Russia’ is currently being shown at the Pushkin Museum. It features pieces by Aubrey Beardsley together with works by Russian artists from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, whom he influenced.
One of the most successful artistic movements of early 20th century in Russia – Mir Iskusstva (World of Arts) – evolved under the influence of Art Nouveau and the renowned British graphic artist, Aubrey Beardsley. The exhibition includes Beardsley’s engravings, books with Wilde’s autographs, illustrations by Russian followers of Beardsley and unique artistic magazines illustrated by Aubrey Beardsley and his successors.
