Times & Epochs. The Gathering
Russia’s largest historical re-enactment festival expands and this year will be held during 12 days in June at 30 locations in Moscow. The event has attracted 6,000 participants, 1,000 of them coming from other countries.
The Times & Epochs series began in 2011. Festivals used to be held in the museum-reserve Kolomenskoye, and each year they were devoted to a new historical theme. ‘Times & Epochs. The Gathering’ will be a convention of re-enactors representing all the epochs of the world history. For 12 days, at 30 sites throughout the Russian capital, 6000 re-enactors will immerse citizens and tourists in history.
In parks and squares, central streets and boulevards there will be camps of re-enactors from all over the world. Muscovites and tourists will walk around the center from one era to another, go to the parks to see a Catherine the Great’s cavalcade, a combat of Roman legions with barbarians or a camp of the Russian Imperial Army.
In addition to participants from all over Russia, the festival is expecting to host about 1,000 re-enactors from Italy, Great Britain, Sweden, Bulgaria, Romania, Slovenia, Estonia, Czech Republic, France, Spain, Poland, Serbia, USA, Greece, Romania, Latvia, and Ireland.
The visitors will be able to talk with re-enactors, learn unusual details from the life of the epoch, learn crafts and games of the past. You can travel to your favorite epochs by yourself or sign up for excursions on the developed routes.
Dates: June 1 – 12, 2017
