What the Tretyakov Gallery Has to Offer this Autumn

What do two Russian artists from different cities have in common? Where can you see both giant and miniature masterpieces? Is creativity inherited? All the answers to these questions and many more can be found at the Tretyakov Gallery and the New Tretyakov Gallery this autumn. Art lovers and guests touring the capital can immerse themselves in the atmosphere of Russian impressionism, explore the image of Russia through the works of famous artists’ dynasty, and discover the true power of art.

Adepts of Red. Malyavin & Arkhipov

The exhibition raises the main question: what are the similarities and differences between the methods of these two great Russian artists? Within this exhibition project dedicated to the anniversaries of both artists, visitors can enjoy the vibrant colours of Russian impressionism. More importantly, the viewer can get acquainted with the central figure in the artists' works—the image of the Russian peasant woman. The exhibition is not limited to specific genres. Visitors can see both landscapes and portraits, as well as attend various lectures, guided tours, and performative walks.

The Vasnetsovs

When asked to remember the great artist Vasnetsov, who comes to mind? This question can be difficult to answer, as there was not just one great Vasnetsov, but an entire dynasty. This exhibition presents the works of three notable members of this family—Victor Mikhailovich (1848–1926), Apollinary Mikhailovich (1856–1933), and Andrey Vladimirovich (1924–2009). The exhibition will carefully lay out the connections between these generations over the centuries, celebrating Victor Vasnetsov’s 175th anniversary and Andrey Vasnetsov’s centenary.
