What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of a ‘bunker’? These once-hidden places evoke the Cold War, dictators, mystery and danger. Several decades ago, it was impossible for most people to enter them. Today, some bunkers have been turned into museums and are extremely popular attractions for those curious about the enigmas and history of the 20th century.

Summer is here, and it’s the best season for traveling in Russia. Take a breath of fresh air as you visit old towns and places outside the capital, enjoy the local treats, and learn more about the country’s past, present, and future. Paintings by Monet, Renoir, Malevich, van Gogh, Kandinsky, and many other prominent artists are on display at exhibitions in Moscow right now, together with golden treasures from Sarmatian nomad heritage.

Summer is coming, and it’s the best season for traveling in Russia. The HSE Travel student organisation has curated a collection of cities accessible within a few hours from Moscow, alongside insights into their prominent tourist attractions.

On May 17, the ‘Light and Air’ group exhibition project was opened by students of the HSE Art and Design School at the Arkhangelskoye Museum Estate. The exhibits created by the university’s contemporary artists in training reflect on how people are connected with nature. The exhibition is open until July 9.

It's hard to believe, but the Moscow City business district—one of the most prominent sights in Moscow—is several decades old. Construction started in the mid-90s on the site of a former quarry and continues to this day. This 'city in the city' holds a valuable place in the life of the capital, bringing some modern features to the ancient city and seamlessly fitting into the landscape.

‘Comics Mission. The Evolution of Drawn Stories in Russia’ is a large-scale event for fans of comics and graphic novels. Highlights include an exhibition, a festival and a laboratory dedicated to national comics. The exhibition in Zaryadye Park showcases an array of objects, ranging from early examples of cartoon stories from the 16th–early 20th centuries to the latest works by emerging artists in the 20th–21st centuries.

During the Days of Historical and Cultural Heritage event, which will run until the end of May, a variety of unique buildings, museums, exhibition halls, libraries, and cultural centres in Moscow will be open to the public free of charge. As usual, HSE University is participating in these events and extends an invitation to students, staff, and anyone interested to take part in the activities it has prepared.

Spring is officially here, and Moscow dwellers are ready to make the most of it. The city’s parks have lots of attractions, events, and blooming flowers for visitors to enjoy.
