Abstract
The course of Theoretical English Grammar is the natural continuation of the course of Practical English Grammar. However, unlike its predecessor, its goal is not to lay down the rules, but rather to present an overview of the English language focusing on its hierarchical structure, from the word to the text. Therefore, you are expected to have mastered the practical grammar of English at approximately the C1/C2 level. The course “Theoretical Stylistics” focuses on the system of expressive resources and stylistic devices of the English language in line with the effects achieved. Students will develop their skills of stylistic analysis viewing the text as a unity of semantic, functional, structural, and stylistic elements. Within the format of the course, students learn to analyze and create texts belonging to different functional styles. Seminars offer a variety of practical exercises and creative work. The course contains novel elements - juxtaposition of style and discourse analyses; elements of narratological analysis of emotive prose. Acquired theoretical knowledge and practical skills should be applied in the process of writing the graduation paper.
