Course Syllabus
Abstract
The course focuses on research commentary as part of writing for research and publication purposes. Special attention is paid to the analysis and interpretation of primary and secondary sources related to language teaching, translation and interpreting, and intercultural communication. Students familiarize themselves with various formatting and citation styles adhered to by top-tier peer-reviewed journals. Along with evaluating sources, students are expected to integrate them into their own investigations.
Learning Objectives
- to familiarize students with requirements to modern research and source studies in terms of "top-tier journal publishability"
- to revise the fundamentals of searching, classifying, and critically analyzing primary and secondary sources
Expected Learning Outcomes
- Students analyze and apply basic formatting and citation styles to a variety of papers.
- Students present and format bibliographic data of paper-based and electronic references used for citations in research papers.
- Students are aware of features of current trends in modern world research into Humanities
- Students apply effective strategies of information search in various search systems and analyze the information potential of sources in accordance with their bibliographical data and other relevant information
- Students apply tecnniques of handling sources and sets of sources to critically evaluate them and integrate them into research papers
- Students select sources relevant for their research papers. They then critically evaluate and interpret these sources and cite them according to relevant citation sources (APA, MLS, etc.)
