Course Syllabus

Abstract

The program is aimed at the IR students learning German as the first foreign language at the beginner’s level (I-II study years). The purpose of the course “German language” at the 1st stage is to form and develop crosscultural common communicative competence required for the further successful completion of the 2nd stages of the program (III-IV study years) aimed at forming and developing foreign professional-oriented communicative competence. Complex of formed and developed competences during the 1st round match the language level of B1+ of the CEPR European language scale
Learning Objectives

Learning Objectives

  • Students must be able to work with language material using academic (educational) literature.
  • Students must know peculiarities of sociocultural patterns of verbal and non-verbal behavior in both foreign language and mother tongue, understand the degree of their compatibility / incompatibility.
  • Student must be able to summarize and comment the content of business correspondence and synthesize various secondary texts

  • Can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type.
  • Сan introduce herself and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where she lives, people she knows, and things she has.
  • Can interact with other people in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.
  • Can tell where he and others are from and give a basic description of his city.
  • Can talk simply about family and colleagues, describing their appearance and personalities.
  • Can discuss clothing at a basic level and ask sales clerks simple questions about it.
  • Can talk about favorite foods and make simple orders for take-out food.
  • Can talk about daily activities and arrange meetings with friends and colleagues.
  • Can describe current weather conditions and suggest activities according to the weather forecast.
  • Can discuss common products, make basic purchases and return faulty items.
  • Can complete basic transactions at a hotel, including checking in and checking out.
  • Can talk about his hobbies and interests and makes plans for fun activities with friends or colleagues.
