Course Syllabus

Abstract

The course provides contemporary business ethics and CSR knowledge and skills which is required by every manager: 1) good knowledge of basic ethical theory (utilitarianism, deontology) as well as CSR and sustainability concepts and ability to apply it to various business dilemmas; 2) understanding of psychological and situational reasons for unethical decisions and ability to work with these factors in practice? 3) ability to design and use of mechanisms of managing ethics in the market (competition, state and self-regulation) and in the company (compliance systems and sustainability management). The course will include several intercampus activities where students of various campuses will work together online: 1) role games simulating decision-making and communication in the real companies, 2) debates and critical discussions of the moral dilemmas and challenges from contemporary business agenda. The course will be taught with collaboration of Russian Business Ethics Network: 1) guest lectures of RBEN members (directors of ethics and sustainability from leading Russian companies), 2) collection of RBEN teaching cases (the most recent and relevant practical material in business ethics and CSR).
