Course Syllabus
Abstract
Research Seminar course designed for academic track master students in management aims at developing students’ skills on how to independently conduct research and make a substantive theoretical and practical contribution to the management field, prepare high quality research papers for further publication in top-tier academic journals, and successfully defend their Master’s theses. The course covers the main guiding principles of conducting high quality academic research.
Learning Objectives
- • to make informed decisions on the research design of their academic papers;
- • to understand and adhere to high standards of academic research;
- • to understand the importance of theoretical foundation of their research;
- • to apply the principles of an effective literature review;
- • to recognize the importance of a research framework;
- • to understand widely used research methods and data analysis techniques;
- • to address data collection and sampling issues as well as bias and validity issues;
- • to understand the main principles of research ethics and the consequences of research misconduct.
Expected Learning Outcomes
- Students should be able to distinguish between the types of academic papers and make a literature review.
- Students should be able to understand the importance of research framework and theoretical foundation of the research as a basis of its contribution to the body of knowledge and demonstrate the ability to identify and access high quality research via citation management systems.
- Students should be able to distinguish between different research methods and strategies and understand the rationale for their application.
- Students should be able to choose appropriate sample defining techniques, data collection strategy, and data analysis methods.

- Students should be able to address validity and reliability issues in the collected data; organize effective data collection process to gather high quality data for the analysis
- Students should be able to choose the appropriate journals for their publications and understand the main underlying processes of manuscript submission and publication.
