Course Syllabus

Abstract

During the course Agile approach in project management students will study two main methodologies: Scrum and Kanban. The course will provide students with differences between an agile and waterfall approach in project management, benefits of that approach, and practices of implementation of that approach not only for IT projects, but for industry sectors from innovative services to heavy industries and large-scale manufacturing.

  • The purpose of mastering the discipline is to introduce students to agile project management methodologies, disassemble the main tools (Scrum, Kanban), show the use of tools in companies, and teach students to independently select the appropriate agile tool for a particular process or company.

  • non-blocking Analysis of sections of the PMBOK standard
    Students need to select a section of the PMBOK standard that describes one of the stages of the project life cycle, read it, analyze it and present it in Mind Map format at the seminar. The task is performed in pairs of 2 people.
  • non-blocking Prepare a report on the application of agile methodologies in a particular company
    It is necessary to prepare a report on the specifics of the application of flexible methodologies on the example of a particular company and present it at the seminar in the form of a Power Point presentation.
  • non-blocking Presentation of your business project
    It is necessary to draw up a detailed description of the business project based on your idea using flexible methodologies. The assignment must include: 1. Brief description of the idea. 2. Description of a case study on the use of agile methodologies in similar business projects (Russian or foreign). 3. The tool used (Scrum, Kanban, EX, Lean, etc., or a combination of them), why this particular tool was chosen 4. Describe the passage of all stages of the project life cycle using the example of a mini-project within the framework of the business under consideration. 5. Describe the distribution of roles among team members, on what principles people were recruited into the team, how responsibility is distributed in the team for work. 6. How the team collects requirements for the product, what are the criteria for the formation of requirements. 7. On the basis of what software the work on the project is carried out, why this particular software product was chosen. 8. What reporting on completion of the project the team submits (to the manager and the customer). 9. Whether retrospectives are held, for what purpose, how they are held, what results the team and management receive. The assignment must be prepared in PowerPoint or PDF presentation format. Work is carried out in teams of 3-4 people. Time to defend the project - 20 minutes.
