Course Syllabus
Abstract
This course covers theory and research in atypical development across the lifespan. Topics include neurodevelopmental disorders that can appear in childhood and neurodegenerative diseases that can appear in adulthood. These include attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder, autism spectrum disorder and Alzheimer’s disease. Discussion topics also include learning disorders such as cognitive impairments in specific language impairments, dyslexia and dyscalculia as well as psychopathologies expresses in adolescence, such as schizophrenia. Clinical and practical implications of research will be emphasized highlighting the importance of continuing empirical work in understanding typical and atypical development across the lifespan.
