Course Syllabus
Abstract
This course studies the development of the Russian film industry from Soviet times to modern Russia. Focusing on the interrelationships between government, filmmakers, interests of film distributors and viewers, it addresses how the Soviet film policy attempted to balance between profit and ideology. In addition, students will acquire knowledge on the role of the Soviet heritage in Russian cinema of the last decades.
