Course Syllabus

Abstract

The course is devoted to the aesthetic problematization of the modern city through the search for meaningful relationships between physical, symbolic and social spaces. Students will master the basic tools for aesthetic analysis of the urban environment, especially of critical, scenographic, phenomenological and biophilic approaches. The joint elaboration of theoretical texts will be carried out in connection with the specific tasks of urban planning and consultation. In a pragmatic, practice-oriented logic, it will be found out, what combinations of factors can determine the degree of life, beauty and integrity of the urban environment by answering the main questions of the course: (1) How are practices related to space and place? (2) What perceptual structures underlie everyday urban life? (3) How do life and beauty correlate with urban morphology?
