Abstract

p-adic numbers are much younger than the real and complex ones; they were introduced by Hensel at the turn of 20th century. But they have a rich analysis and geometry of their own. They are even better suited for arithmetic applications. Following the classical book by Koblitz, we will study Dwork's proof of A.Weil's conjecture on rationality of zeta-functions in the framework of p-adic analysis.
