Course Syllabus
Abstract
This course covers main concepts of macroeconomics and finance in the settings of an open economy. The goal of the discipline is to introduce students to relevant theoretical research in international finance and examples of its practical application. The course is aimed at contributing to students’ understanding of current issues and recent developments in the field of international finance with a focus on foreign exchange and international capital markets. Learning Objectives
- Provide students with an understanding of mechanics and operation of the foreign exchange markets;
- Explain the impact of government and central bank policies in an open economy;
- Demonstrate the evolution of international monetary system;
- Introduce students to basic theories and instruments for understanding and managing risks of international companies and institutions.
Expected Learning Outcomes
- To understand main principles of foreign exchange and international capital markets;
- To be able to analyze the dynamics of an open economy, including exchange rate movements;
- To identify the effect of different policies in an open economy;
- To describe current issues in the field of international finance.
