Course Syllabus

Abstract

The course "French language" is intended for students of International Relations as part of the HSE and University of London's International Relations Parallel Degree Program. By the end of the 3rd year, students are expected to develop a set of competencies for students corresponding to the B1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)

Learning Objectives

  • The course is aimed at developing students’ skills in academic reading, listening, speaking and writing as well as their test-taking strategies while preparing for the DELF exam. It will enable students to - develop cultural, social, personal, professional and cognitive competences, - form skills in all types of speech activities and those of working autonomously, - raise sociocultural awareness, the informational culture and general cultural knowledge.

Writing - write a comparative essay with the elements of argumentation
  • Listening and reading: can understand - the gist of the authentic texts on social and political subjects; - details of pragmatic informative texts related to the topic under study. - particular information in tables, schemes, diagrams, etc. Speaking: - can make up a monologue (focusing on narrative and message), - can participate in a dialogue (focusing on questions), - can participate in a discussion. Writing: - can summarise the text using the technique of résumé.
  • Listening and reading: can understand - the gist and details of authentic recorded texts (normal tempo); - the gist and details of authentic written texts related to the topic under study.
  • Listening and reading: can understand - the gist of the authentic publicist texts on social and political topics; - the details of pragmatic informative texts related to the topic under study. - particular information in tables, schemes, diagrams, etc.
