Abstract

The preparation and defense of Project Proposals is a mandatory element of thesis preparation. Project Proposal (2500 - 3500 words) is an outline of the intended design of the upcoming Bachelor Thesis. Project Proposal consists of the following sections: ● Abstract (~200-250 words); ● Introduction (~350-450 words); ● Literature Review (~700-1000 words); ● Methods (~300 words); ● Expected Outcomes (~200 words); ● Conclusions (~250-300 words), ● List of References; ● Appendices (optional). Thus, Project Proposal should provide the description of the topic, the problem statement, and research questions (or hypotheses); explain the relation between the topic and the existing body of research; and describe the motivation behind the proposed data and methodology. The Literature Review should cover the main research areas related to the thesis topic and analyze no less than 15 relevant English-language references. The in-text citations and the List of References must be formatted in accordance with the APA (7th edition) format. The text of the Project Proposal is evaluated and graded by the student’s research advisor. Project Proposal is presented for public defense to the Examination Board; the defense consists of a 7-minute talk (accompanied by slides) followed by 1-3 questions from the Board. The final grade for Project Proposal is calculated as follows: Gfinal = 0.4*Gadvisor +0.6*Gpresentation. The final grade is recorded in the student’s graduation certificate.
