Abstract
The course introduces the basic linguistic terms, and also covers some modern branches of linguistics as a science. It encompasses such topics as the description of language systems, historical-comparative and typological linguistics. Among the current trends the course touches upon are ethno and psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, semiotics, and cognitive linguistics.
