Abstract
The course "Structural Analysis and Visualization of Networks" introduces students to a new and actively developing interdisciplinary field of network structure sciences. Since the research of social networks by sociologists, this area has attracted the attention of physicists, computer scientists, economists, computational biologists, linguists and others, and has become a truly interdisciplinary field of study. Despite the variety of processes that form networks, as well as objects and relationships that serve as nodes and edges in these networks, all networks have common statistical and structural properties. The interaction between order and disorder creates complex network structures that are the focus of the study. During the course, we will consider methods of statistical and structural analysis of networks, models of network formation and evolution, and the development of processes in the network. Special attention will be paid to the practical analysis and visualization of real networks using available software tools, and modern programming languages and libraries.
