Course Syllabus
Abstract
The course covers the contemporary geopolitics of Asia’s main regions with special attention to transport projects, religious extremism, drug traffic, piracy and colour revolutions as instruments of geopolitical struggle. Asian geopolitics is seen in the light of integration / disintegration dichotomy. The potential of BRICS as a tool of combating destabilizing forces is assessed.
Learning Objectives
- The aim of the course is to acquaint students with most influential geopolitical schools and theories, as well as with the past and present of Asia’s place in the world political, economic, and security system.
Expected Learning Outcomes
- 1. Names the subject of geopolitics, its main theoretical schools and thinkers. 2. Describes Asia in world geopolitics at the beginning of the 21st century. 3. Names the main categories of geopolitical actors in the modern world. 4. Describes the Greater Middle East in modern geopolitics. 5. Describes the contemporary geopolitics of South Asia. 6. Describes East and Southeast Asia in modern geopolitics.
