Course Syllabus
Abstract
The course is devoted to theoretical questions essential to contemporary art (CA) as an institution, a field of practice, and a system of knowledge. Starting with the philosophical problem of ‘the contemporary’ to which CA strives to respond, the course further addresses highly debated issues — from medium-specificity to the postconceptual transcategoriality, from market influence to forms of art repolitisation, from art as knowledge production to new aesthetic categories controversially uniting CA and pop culture — each of those critical to understanding the role of art today.
