Sergey Davydov took part in the media briefing of the Digital Economy ANO
Sergey Davydov, senior researcher at the ILSIR, spoke on January 30 at the presentation of the study “The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Education”
The event took place at the site of the international exhibition and forum “Russia” of the ANO “Digital Economy” in the format of a media briefing. Trends in the implementation of AI in education were reviewed, examples of existing cases of the use of AI in the industry were given, as well as new requirements for the competencies of teachers. The report also addressed ethical and legal issues related to the introduction of AI in education.
The team of authors of the report included Arina Vichkanova, a master’s student at the Institute of Education of the NRU HSE; Nadezhda Ademukova, senior lecturer at the Department of Media, NRU HSE; Maria Saykina, chief analyst of RAEC; Natalia Matveeva, researcher at the International Laboratory for Institutional Analysis of Economic Reforms at the NRU HSE. The impact of AI on education is considered in 7 areas:
• dissemination of adaptive learning technologies;
• spread of AI-based gamification;
• introduction of intelligent robotics into educational processes;
• inclusion of AI studies in educational programs;
• use of AI in micro- and nanolearning in corporate education;
• use of generative AI in education;
• dissemination of AI on massive open online course platforms.
The study also identified 4 barriers preventing the spread of AI in domestic education:
• problems of the digital divide—unequal opportunities for access to digital resources;
• lack of qualified specialists to work with AI solutions;
• the problem of access to government big data;
• parents' concerns regarding the use of AI in school education.
Sergey Davydov emphasized that parents have concerns about smart machines due to a lack of understanding of how they will affect the quality of education. He also noted the importance of protecting students' data, arguing that such protection should be at the level of protecting medical data since leaks can pose risks to the psychological health and personal space of children and adolescents. According to Sergei Davydov, the classic teacher approach, focused on hard skills, is currently giving way to soft skills and meta-skills.
