HSE Graduate School of Business Holds Crash Course for Prospective Master’s Students
The HSE Graduate School of Business conducted a unique two-day online winter school with cutting-edge teaching and learning practices: case methods, design thinking, and business games. Participants from 16 countries took part in free workshops by business professionals and earned extra points for admission.
In 2022, the HSE Graduate School of Business organised winter schools in Management and Business Informatics.
In the Management section, participants learned about five programmes:
Marketing: Digital Technologies and Marketing Communications
Master in International Management
Production Systems and Operational Excellence
People Management: Digital Technologies and Organizational Development
While the Business Informatics section covered four programmes:
Business Analytics and Big Data Systems
Electronic Business and Digital Innovations
Business Informatics: Digital Enterprise and Information Systems Management
The first day of the winter schools featured interactive webinars from business professionals, discussions with businesspeople, and TED Talks. Academic supervisors of the master’s programmes talked about their programmes, shared some anecdotes from their work, and revealed some of the secrets to successful admission to GSB master’s programmes.
The second day was dedicated to practice. The organisers analysed over 1,000 applications consisting of a CV and short motivation video, and invited the most motivated, active and enthusiastic applicants to the Case Day. They worked in teams on real business cases. The cases were provided by the schools’ partner companies: Unilever, Miro, NLMK, Siemens, and McKinsey.
The HSE GSB winter schools concluded with some concluding remarks and an award ceremony. The winners of awards and prizes in the Case Day received additional points for their admission portfolios for GSB master’s programmes.

The HSE Graduate School of Business Winter School in Management was an incredible experience that helped me to understand the admission requirements, inspired me, and introduced me to the programme. On the first day, I listened to lectures by inspiring speakers, and on the second day, my team took first place in solving a case on investment project management. This will help make my master’s application stronger.

Our team had a task to increase the turnover of the ‘Hurray! Ice-cream!’ project on Yandex.Eda platform for the next quarter. We suggested focusing on large-scale cooperation with Yandex.Plus, registering the project in all rewards programmes, introducing a subscription for ice-cream lovers, and looking at a new approach to audience segmentation. It was great to hear that the company is going to implement our ideas and suggestions in the next quarter. That’s why we took first place!

HSE University’s Faculty of Computer Science to Hold 2024 Winter School on Software Engineering
On February 26–29, 2024, HSE University’s Faculty of Computer Science will hold a winter school on software engineering for the third time. It will focus on modern software development tools and methods. From February 26 to 28, the school will be held online, and on February 29, it will take place at the HSE University building on Pokrovsky Bulvar in Moscow. Those interested can register to participate until February 22.
HSE Faculty of Computer Science Holds Second Winter School on Software Engineering
This year, 625 applications from 90 cities were submitted to participate in the second Winter School on Software Engineering at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science. The main topics were software architecture, mobile development, digital twins, artificial intelligence, cloud services development, API, technical debt, QA, software systems, Flutter, and distributed systems.
HSE Co-organises Floating University
Floating University is a national project to help students and young scientists immerse themselves in Earth science research and undertake an expedition aboard a research vessel. However, anyone interested in taking part must first go through the training and selection process. For those who dream of going on a scientific voyage, there is a winter school co-organised by HSE University.

From October 23 to 29, 2017, the Department of Public Policy at the Higher School of Economics held a weeklong Winter School dedicated to the subject of the ‘Russian historic memory: in search of identity’. Participants from four continents came together in Rostov Veliky, one of Russia’s oldest and most historical cities.
