Social Innovation has emerged as a prominent global strategic response towards society's demands bidding multinational corporations (MNCs) to go beyond being socially responsible and increase their efforts in addressing issues of the ‘Era of Grand Challenges’. This research explores the mechanisms that influence MNC’s involvement in Social Innovation in the context of emerging markets. It uses the Quadruple Helix Model to examine the relationships and interactions of MNCs with various stakeholders through case studies that highlight emerging market traits that facilitate the Social Innovation process while using the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as a measure to systematise Social Innovation. The study extends existing International Business theories into the inchoate realm of Social Innovation, specifically in the emerging markets context, through empirical studies. In this way, the study seeks to determine the factors that motivate MNCs to address sustainability challenges in emerging economies through Social Innovation, which is found to be a compelling and sustainable competitive strategy for companies to help resolve societal problems while achieving business objectives and remaining relevant in turbulent times.
