Ivan Gruzdev Appointed HSE Director for Institutional Research and Student Academic Development
He spoke to HSE News Service about what his new office will be doing.
Ivan Gruzdev started work at the HSE Centre for Institutional Research (CIR) in 2010, while he was completing his bachelor’s degree in sociology. During recent years, he has been head of the centre, which is well known to many HSE students, staff and even prospective students. The regular surveys carried out by the centre monitor the university’s multidimensional landscape.
In his new position, Ivan Gruzdev will be solving two groups of tasks. ‘On the one hand, we’ll continue developing the system of internal sociological research, which has operated within HSE for almost a decade’, he explained, ‘We are going to expand the CIR’s key projects – regular monitoring and student assessment of teaching – with some new areas of internal analysis. In particular, we are going to use the data from corporate information systems and social media more actively’.
On the other hand, the new office will popularize research among students and expand the opportunities for student involvement in academic research and expert analysis projects. The office now includes the Student Academic Development Centre.
‘I believe that the Centre’s goal is to show the students that research is not some boring work without any career prospects, but a truly royal job’, Ivan Gruzdev said, ‘It allows you do something you love, maintain a high level of freedom, and achieve public acknowledgement and success all at the same time’.
CIR will be organizing popular science events, supporting student research projects and initiatives beyond HSE laboratories and departments, and developing tools to promote new researchers’ communication with each other.
