HSE School of Asian Studies Celebrates World Arabic Language Day
In honour of the event, the university’s Palmyra Club held an evening of Arabic poetry. The future orientalists read works by their favourite authors, as well as their own translations of the poems. School of Asian Studies graduates, who had won grants to study at a university in Qatar, also shared their recommendations as to who should study Arabic.

MIEM Professor Develops Chatbot to Motivate Students
HSE MIEM Professor Alexander Varnavsky has developed a chatbot to increase the success of implementing a ‘Flipped Classroom’ approach in his teaching. He presented the bot at the International Conference-Competition of Innovative Educational Technology held at Moscow State University, where it took first place in the ‘Information and Pedagogical Technology’ category.
Open Doors Scholarship Competition for International Applicants: Register Now!
More than 40,000 participants from 183 countries have already registered for the Open Doors Scholarship Competition. The competition, which is held by the Association of Global Universities, gives international applicants the opportunity to enroll tuition-free in a Master’s programme of a participating Russian university of their choice without having to take entrance exams. The deadline to submit your portfolio for consideration is December 18.
Belgian Student Combines Urban Planning and Slavic Studies at HSE University
Charlotte Rottiers is a master’s exchange student from Ghent University (Belgium). This semester she is taking courses at HSE University on urban planning in the ‘Prototyping Future Cities’ Master’s Programme as well as courses on Russian language and culture in the Faculty of Humanities. HSE Students Take Third Place at Junction International Hackathon
This year 1500 participants from 100 countries took part in the Junction International Hackathon. A team of second-year students of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science (Timofey Smirnov, Igor Zverev, Ainur Nuriev and Aldar Danilov) led by Maxim Dyakov (first-year student of the programme in E-Business) presented a smart lighting project.
Two HSE University Teams to Compete in ICPC Finals
Students from both HSE Moscow and HSE St. Petersburg have made it to the finals of the ICPC-2020 World Programming Championship. They were among the best teams at the semi-finals stage of the championship, which took place last weekend in St. Petersburg.

HSE International Preparatory Programmes Kick off New Year
