The Higher School of Economics has climbed to 32nd place in the Times Higher Education Emerging Economies Rankings, improving its previous position by 16 places.

Over the past 20 years, the BRICS countries' contribution to biotechnology development has increased manyfold, but it may be too early to predict a change of global leaders in this field, according to HSE ISSEK researchers who examined biotechnology patenting in the BRICS countries and published their findings in Trends in Biotechnology.

HSE and Moscow Exchange are founding a joint Department of Financial Market Infrastructure at the Faculty of Economic Sciences. It will bring together HSE lecturers and Moscow Exchange staff. Students will be offered new courses and will also have the opportunity to participate in project work and undertake internships at the Exchange.

HSE has announced the winners of the Academicus Modus competition of student projects. They will receive a year-long grant for their research, the results of which will be published in an academic journal.

The HSE Student Council Committee on Education Quality has won the title ‘Best project aimed at monitoring the quality of educational services’. The national competition assesses student activities which aim to improve the quality of education and is organized by the Russian Union of Youth, together with Rosobrnadzor (government agency supervising educational institutions) and the Russian Association of Students and Student Organisations.

HSE alumna Daria Rebenok and her husband founded the online service Grabr, which combines Daria’s love for shopping and travel. This service allows clients to place orders with travellers who agree to bring back an item that cannot be purchased online from a certain country. In the latest edition of Success Builder, Daria talks about the magic of shopping, the different aspects of Silicon Valley, the importance of Russian programmers, and the future of the remote employment market.

An article by HSE Faculty of Computer Sciences senior Artyom Gadetsky was accepted for presentation at the Association for Computational Linguistics international conference, the only A* level conference on computational linguistics. According to the CORE system, which ranks large conferences in computer science, the category A* is the highest level for a conference.
