HSE University Vice Rector Victoria Panova spoke at the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF 2024) that began in Vladivostok. The topic of her speech was the expansion of BRICS.

Dmitry Suslov, Deputy Director of the CCEIS, analyzed Russia's policy in the context of the escalation of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis in an interview for Fox News. Key ideas:
-The mood in Moscow absolutely does not correspond to the image of the capital of a country preparing for a large-scale military invasion.
-Russia uses the demonstration of military power as a tool to achieve its goals through diplomacy.
-If Ukraine decentralizes, as required by the Minsk agreements, it will be more difficult for Kyiv to join Western unions since Ukrainian nationalism will be opposed by the population of Russian-speaking regions.
-Russia is not interested in de-escalating until its security guarantee demands on NATO are accepted.

Lev Sokolshchik, an Associate Professor of the School of International Regional Studies, and a Research Fellow at the Centre for Comprehensive European and International Studies (CCEIS) took part in the second ACONA Boot Camp (January 10-14, 2022) as a member of the organizing team and a supervisor of the international research group focused on the prospects for concluding a new arms control treaty. The activities at the camp included a series of presentations of the scientific projects' results of the ACONA fellows, discussions with the world’s leading experts in the fields of international relations and arms control, master classes, and exercises to develop negotiation skills.

Associate Director of Centre for Comprehensive European and International Studies Dmitriy Suslov expressed his opinion on tensions between Russia, Ukraine, and the United States in an article for the New York Times magazine. Basic ideas:
-A hypothetical Russian invasion of Ukraine would not undermine the security of the United States 
-The overall logic of Russian actions is that it is the U.S. and NATO that must pay a high price
-Beyond a more threatening Russian military posture, the United States would be particularly sensitive to closer military cooperation between Russia and China. 
-The United States does not want to increase its military presence in Europe, as this would be done at the cost of containing China

Deputy Director of the CCEIS Dmitry Suslov described a new direction for the development of U.S. foreign policy focusing on Biden's historical role as a follower of Trump. However, Biden is using a more systematic approach to implementing the chosen paradigm than his predecessor.
The main theses:
- We see a rejection of the universalization of the American-centric world order- Change of the vector of U.S. foreign policy development to rivalry with global rivals - China and Russia, which later became a new paradigm
- The previous foreign policy course has been replaced by a struggle against transnational threats and changing rhetoric towards European allies to a more benevolent one
- The leading U.S. forces are aimed at deterring China, consolidating the anti-Chinese coalition, weakening the trend of rapprochement between Moscow and Beijing, and confrontation with Russia
- The U.S. strives to increase its presence, circle of partners, and military and political obligations in Asia

The report was prepared by a group from the HSE University Centre for African Studies and the Centre for Comprehensive European and International Studies of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs. The authors highlight that Russia is invested in the future development of the continent and is open to dialogue with all African nations. The report names the most economically promising fields to be energy, digital technologies, and agriculture.

As a member of the Project Affiliates team Lev Sokolshchik (Research Fellow, Center for Comprehensive European and International Studies – CCEIS), took part in the work of the first ACONA Boot Camp, which had been held from 16 to 20 August 2021. During the camp, scientific discussions, lectures, reports, and workshops were held. The list of the participants included leading world experts in the fields of International Relations, Negotiations, Global and Regional security.

In the run-up to the HSE International Summer University, which will open on June 20, a series of special online meetups are currently held in association with HSE’s eLearning Office. The meetups give international students an opportunity to meet HSE University professors who teach courses during the Summer University programme. Registration for the final meetup, on June 11, is now open.

HSE University in collaboration with Harvard University and other partner organizations have completed the Third Boot Camp of the Arms Control Negotiation Academy (ACONA) which took place from 17 to 21 May 2021.

At the XXII April International Conference, the report "Russia's Arctic Policy: International Aspects", made under the leadership of Sergey Karaganov, was presented. The report was co-authored by the CCEIS staff Anastasia Likhacheva, Vasily Kashin, Dmitry Suslov, Igor Makarov and Ilya Stepanov.

To improve its global competitiveness, Russia needs an independent environmental agenda along with a concept for environmental protection, and it makes sense to suggest a ‘global clean deal’ to Europe. A report outlining this, prepared by a team of experts from HSE University, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and environmentalists, was presented at TASS.

On Wednesday, January 27^th, the School of International Regional Studies of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs of HSE University, within the framework of the permanent online seminar “Contemporary Area Studies”, organized a discussion with Maxim Suchkov, Senior Researcher at the Center for Advanced American Studies, IIAMGIMO, on the topic "America in 2021: up or down?"

On January 23 Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs of the National Research University Higher School of Economics arranged Expert Panel on US-Russia Relations for the Stanford US-Russia Forum 2021 delegates. This Panel traditionally opens the series of SURF events in Moscow. This year the Panel was conducted online.
The speakers analyzed the current international context of the US-Russia relations, domestic trends in the US and their impact on the US policy towards Russia, prospects for the US foreign policy and US-Russia relations during the Biden Administration. After the discussion, which was moderated by Dmitry Suslov, the panelists answered the SURF delegates’ questions.

The HSE University in cooperation with The Harvard University and other partners have completed The Second Boot Camp of the Arms Control Negotiation Academy (ACONA).

On Friday, November 6, 2020 Dmitry Suslov, Deputy Director of the Center for Comprehensive European and International Studies and Senior Lecturer at the Department of International Relations at HSE University, gave a public online lecture “The US after the Presidential Elections 2020: Prospects for Foreign Policy and US-Russian Relations.”

The American journal "The National Interest" published an article by Dmitry Suslov "Why the 2020 Election Has Become a Geopolitical Russian Roulette", which contains the comments of the research professor Fyodor Lukyanov, as well as the deputy director of CCEIS, Dmitry Suslov.

There is a danger that by focusing entirely on the pandemic Russia and the international community might get distracted from addressing fundamental problems―devising and implementing a new, future-oriented ideological base and agenda for Russia’s foreign policy

Every summer, HSE’s International Summer University attracts students, graduate students, post-docs, and professionals from around the world who wish to spend several weeks in Moscow to deepen their knowledge in a variety of fields. On May 22 the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs hosted the roundtable discussion with the delegation from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy dedicated to the future world order and the US-Russian relations.

By early spring, HSE will have launched a range of new courses on Coursera in psychology, computer language analysis, economics, media and international relations.

The fourth HSE International Summer University has drawn to a close. The programme continues to grow and evolve. This year over 160 students from 46 universities came to HSE to take courses in International Relations & Politics, Computer Science, Russian Studies, Economics, Culture & History.

On November 6, the first module of the University Consortium began at Columbia University (New York). The Consortium was formed this autumn by Columbia, Harvard, the Free University of Berlin, Oxford, the Higher School of Economics, and the Moscow State Institute of International Relations. Students and faculty from the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs represent HSE in the project.

On November 19-20, 2014 HSE hosted a conference on Global Governance: Nominal, Real and Alternative Structures. The conference was largely focused on the paradigm shift in geopolitical and geoeconomic structures of the modern world, as well as the underlying causes and long-term implications of such changes.

On July 3-10, the IV International Russian-Chinese Summer School on International Relations, ‘Space and Time in the Eurasian Era,’ took place in Moscow. The event was organized by the HSE and East China Normal University. A total of 15 Russian and 12 Chinese students are taking part in the summer school. The summer school, whose working language is English, is intended for undergraduate and graduate students from Russia and China that are interested in international relations.
