Life Expectancy in Russia Increases
By 2050, global life expectancy is set to increase by 4.6 years. In Russia, women's life expectancy is forecast to rise from 77 years in 2022 to 82 years by 2050, while men's life expectancy is likely to increase from 68 to 75 years. This is according to a study by an international team of scientists, including Professor Vasily Vlassov from the HSE Faculty of Social Sciences. The study was published in The Lancet.

On December 15, 2022, the International Laboratory for Population and Health and Human Capital Multidisciplinary Research Center held the seminar “Impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the dynamics of life expectancy".

TheHuman Capital Multidisciplinary Research Centre and HSE University, in cooperation with the World Bank, held the conference ‘New Challenges of Demographic, Epidemiological and Medical-Technological Development: Search for New Models of Healthcare Development.’ The participants discussed whether the healthcare system was prepared to face the pandemic, how the latter affected lifespans and excess mortality rates, whether we can trust statistics, and what we should do to see ‘the light at the end of the pandemic tunnel.’

On June 22, several HSE lecturers and staff members were awarded the status of Tenured Professor at a meeting of HSE Academic Council. Sixteen HSE staff members became Distinguished Professors at the Higher School of Economics for the first time.

The Higher School of Economics has entered the Expert Analytical Centre’s ranking in 10 subjects. The ranking studies the research productivity of Russian universities. In five subject areas, the university has taken first position in the ranking.
