'HSE University Taught Me to Think Critically'
Alexandra Kislyonkova, 27, originally from Kazakhstan, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Social Informatics from HSE University in St Petersburg. After completing her bachelor's, Alexandra pursued a master’s in the 'Science of Learning and Assessment' programme at HSE University in Moscow. Alexandra is currently a PhD student in the Quantitative Methods, Measurement, and Statistics programme at the University of California, Merced, where she also holds a teaching position in the Psychology programme. Between St. Petersburg and Moscow: International Lab Researchers Create a New Theoretical School
In Russia, 2021 was declared the Year of Science and Technology. HSE has always paid special attention to the development of science, and more than 40 international laboratories have played an important role in the development of the university as a world research centre. One of the University’s first such laboratories was theRonald F. Inglehart Laboratory for Comparative Social Research (LCSR), named after its academic supervisor at the time, American sociologist and political scientist Ronald Inglehart. Sociology in Education and Science Laboratory on the ID Conference
In the middle of October 2019, a big conference took place: the ID Conference, dedicated to the subjects of migration and diversity. Sociology in Education and Science Laboratory has organized a whole section on this conference - a section on «Migration, inequality, and identity», as well as presented works by Daniel Alexandrov and Svetlana Savelieva.

International Student Research Conference at HSE St. Petersburg
On February 2-3, 2017 the Higher School of Economics in St. Petersburg hosted the International Student Research Conference. The campus became a meeting point for young researchers and professors from Belarus, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Norway, Portugal, Russia, the UK, and Ukraine. For two days, participants attended lectures delivered by keynote speakers, presented posters and discussed issues of social informatics, applied data analysis, regional planning and development, sustainable tourism and development, modern Asia, finance, economic growth, logistics, usable pasts and political science. Sessions covered a wide variety of research interests.

HSE Academic Was Opponent for Dissertation Defence in Estonia
On 25 November Deputy Director of HSE St Petersburg Daniil Alexandrov acted as an opponent for a PhD dissertation defence at Tartu University. In many European countries dissertation defence opponents are often colleagues from abroad. To be invited is a sign of respect for an academic and boosts the credit his or her university as a whole.

At the invitation of the Laboratory of Sociology in Education and Science, renowned sociologist and statistician Tom Snijders is visiting HSE St. Petersburg on March 9-12. Dr. Snijders is a Professor at Oxford University (Great Britain), an emeritus fellow of Nuffield College, and a Professor at the University of Groningen (Netherlands).

HSE Sociologists in Europe
The conference ESA 2013 – Crisis, Critique and Change took place in Turin, in Italy at the end of August 2013. It was organized jointly by the ESA and the Turin University Department of Culture, Politics and Society. Three papers from the Laboratory for Sociology Education and Science at HSE Saint Petersburg Campus were presented at the conference.
