History of the Modern World

This programme has been developed to explain the origins of our contemporary world, its cultural codes and functioning mechanisms to students. It features a transnational approach to the study of historical events. The history of Russia is represented as an integral part of the world order. The courses focus on the formation of mass, knowledge, and performance society, mass cultural production, international legal conventions, new disciplinary regimes, new types of warfare and forms of communication, secular ways of legitimizing the right to rule, etc. Students will get acquainted with the historically changing concept of ‘modernity’ and the predicate ‘modern’.
