HSE Extreme Sports Club invites students, lecturers, and graduates of all HSE campuses as well as their families and friends to spend a week in Sochi from 14th to 20th March 2016. Registration is open until February 21st.

Since 2016 HSE Psychological Counseling Centre will work at 12 Malaya Pionerskaya Ulitsa, Room 547-551 (metro station ‘Paveletskaya’). Due to the relocation, the Centre will be closed on December 28-31. Consultations will resume on January 11.

But for some it’s more than just entertainment – it’s a professional sport that requires a lot of energy and time for training and participating in various contests. S people are called cybersportsmen, and this movement is becoming more popular in Russia. High School Sports media project with the support of MIEM administration held the first HSE cybersport tournament ‘Cyber HSE’.

The fifth Bake Sale organized by a team from the HSE Discussion Club and volunteer students has taken place at HSE. Cheerful music, the aroma of coffee and spicy fresh pastries infused all the buildings and immersed the visitors in the magical atmosphere of New Year holidays.

In early September, the HSE held a series of tours in English prepared by cultural studies students as part of an adaptation programme for international students. The preparation of the tours was led by the Office for Internationalisation. The programme’s main purpose is to get foreign students and staff involved in the social and creative life of the university, and to introduce them to the city’s landmarks.

Social scientist, Assistant Professor at the School of Political Science in HSE Faculty of Social Sciences, Michael Rochlitz uses photography as a way of looking at people in contrast to studying them at his desk. An exhibition of his photographs taken in many different countries including North Korea opened on December 10 on the 4th Floor (British 3rd) at 9/11 Myasnitskaya Ulitsa.

72 master’s and 22 PhD students at HSE have won scholarships from the Oxford Russia Fund. Those studying in Moscow from Sept 2015 - June 2016 will receive 10,000 roubles while students at the Perm, St Petersburg and Nizhny Novgorod campuses will receive 6,000 roubles each.

On 25 November Deputy Director of HSE St Petersburg Daniil Alexandrov acted as an opponent for a PhD dissertation defence at Tartu University. In many European countries dissertation defence opponents are often colleagues from abroad. To be invited is a sign of respect for an academic and boosts the credit his or her university as a whole.
