HSE University Life

The 13th ‘MuzVyshka’ – a music festival organized by the student organization StS with the support of the Centre of Creative Production and Cultural Programmes, recently took place at Fassbinder club.

On March 18 there will be public presentations defending projects that have made it to the second round of the student initiative competition. After the voting – by registered users of the Vyshka (HSE) Family website, 20 projects were selected out of a total 73. The winning projects will receive funding from the Student Initiative Support Fund.

HSE tourist club invites international students, lecturers and researchers to participate in a trekking trip to Russian South (Western Caucasus, near Sochi). The trip will last 12 days, from April 30 to May 12.

HSE Masters student Alexei Lukashkin talks about his impressions of the exchange programme with the French and comparative literature department (Littérature française et comparée) of the Faculty of Philology (Lettres) of Paris IV (Sorbonne).

On the 15th February 2015, the School of Foreign Languages held its first ‘olympiad’ for students and graduates applying for places on the new Master’s programme Foreign Languages and Intercultural Communications. The competition was open to 4th and 5th year students and recent university graduates.

On March 9-15th HSE Extreme Sports Club is organizing the fourth ski and snowboarding trip  to Elbrus and Cheget for HSE students, graduates and staff, and friends. Registration is open until March 7th, 2015.

From January 30 to February 1, 2015, the 8^th Contemporary Dance Festival ‘Power of Silence’ took place in St. Petersburg. Fifty-three dancers and dance teams from all over Russian participated in the contest. Three prizes were awarded in the ‘Solo and Duets’ nomination: for the best choreography, the best female dancer, and the best male dancer. Sona Hovsepyan was named as best choreographer, and Diana Mukhamedshina, member of the Dance Company, won the prize for best female performer.

Eight students of HSE Perm graduated from ‘Business Strategies in a Global Environment’ – a joint master’s programme run by HSE and the University of Essex.

On the 24th of December second year fashion students at the School of Design held PaperShow-2014 to display clothes they had created from the most unexpected materials and textures. These textures have been the focus of their studies.

An HSE student team majoring in software engineering and business informatics won in a category of the Hackathon for developers of mobile applications and web-services in Perm. The students developed an application for diagnosing a patient’s condition based on symptoms.

The Latin category of the World DanceSport Federation World Championship took place in December 2014 in Bremen, Germany. Duet Ensemble, which included students from HSE Perm took home the silver medal.

Alexandra Dvoytsova, a soloist with Sona Hovsepyan Dance Company, won the silver medal at the world tap dance championships in Riesa, Germany. She scored just one point below the gold medal winner, a dancer from the U.S.
