A team of students and alumni from the Higher School of Economics took part in the bicycle parade #WowMoscow on Moscow City Day. The cyclists rode 26 kilometers along Moscow’s streets and embankments, going all the way from the Worker and Kolkhoz Woman monument at VDNKh to Krasnaya Presnya Park.

On the 16^th of August, CultFest 2014 was held at Tavricheskiy Sad, St Petersburg, organised by the international student organisation AIESEC. In addition to serving as an academic partner for the event, HSE conducted a workshop on international education for visitors and participants.

Starting at university is always a bit stressful, if only because there is so much new information to cram into your head, not just academic but organisational too. Where to go, who to ask, how can you not get muddled? Don’t panic!

This summer Lin Yang, a master’s student at ICEF, won one of the prizes in the creative contest ‘How I Decided to Come Study at the HSE’ for his work ‘The Journey of my HSE Life’. HSE News Service has taken the opportunity to talk to Lin about his experience studying and living in Moscow.

HSE’s first Summer University has come to an end. Some 40 students from an array of countries, ranging from Brazil and the U.S. to South Korea and China, took part in the University.

HSE’s student summer camp in Ruza, Moscow region, has ended.  The two sessions lasted a total of one month and saw the participation of around 350 people. The camp did not separate participants into special groups, and there were no required activities. Members of the camp were in charge of deciding for themselves how to relax and spend their time. They thought up activities and invited their friends to participate in them. Let’s recall what they did.

It’s no secret that humanities and engineering disciplines have been kept strictly separate in the past and continue to be so. But some researchers are doing their best to change the situation. One of them is Kenneth Knoespel, a friend of Daniil Alexandrov Deputy Director of the HSE St. Petersburg and Head of the Research Laboratory of Sociology in Education and Science.

In summer 2014 students from the HSE Faculty of History went for a sightseeing excursion around the town of Novaya Ladoga during their archeological training. They shared their impressions with the HSE news service.

From August 9-24, a team of members from the Extreme Sports Club will head to the Sayan Mountains where participants will go rafting on one of the local rivers’ most challenging routes. The best competitors will be eligible to be invited to international competitions, in particular an annual water sports festival in Southeast Asia.

In addition to the University's graduation party, which was held in Club 'Jagger' without speeches, caps and gowns, official ceremonies were held at the faculties and departments where graduates of Bachelor’s, Master’s and specialist programmes received their diplomas.

Hundreds of students, staff and alumni of the Higher School of Economics, as well as students of the HSE Lyceum and friends of the university, took part in the traditional HSE Summer Health Day at the Kant sports centre.

Ten students from the Faculty of Law at the HSE Nizhny Novgorod received International Legal English Certificates (ILEC) confirming their high level of English proficiency in the legal profession. ILEC is the world’s first Cambridge exam in English for lawyers and diplomats; those who receive it are recognized as professionals who can freely communicate in English on legal topics.
