Winners of Iron Egg, the biggest student award, have received their prizes. This year, 33 student associations competed in 11 nominations in the contest finals.

The concrete block in the courtyard of the HSE Institute of Education has been a lasting image of the WW2 era. However, last summer, the institute’s staff came up with the idea of turning it into a piece of art. The idea was put forth by Igor Chirikov, Director of theCentre of Sociology of Higher Education, whereby this useless piece of concrete would be transformed into a monument to the ‘anonymous peer reviewer’. Moreover, this idea ended up garnering the most support as a result of an internal vote.

May 26 marks the birthday of HSE Rector Yaroslav Kuzminov. Although not the same age, both he and HSE are celebrating birthdays this year! At the start of 2017, IFMO Rector Vladimir Vasiliev, when presenting at the Gaidar Forum, congratulated Yaroslav Kuzminov on HSE’s 25^th anniversary, saying that he was the exact same age as the University. ‘I would ask the young ladies to make note of this,’ Prof. Kuzminov quipped.

On May 18, 2017 President Vladimir Putin signed Decree No. 215 ‘On bestowing state awards of the Russian Federation’.

The corresponding directive, No. 662-r 'On Awards by the Government of the Russian Federation', was signed by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on April 11, 2017. 

At ‘Crossroads and Prospects for the Development of Russian Education’, a special session held as part of the XVIII April Conference, experts discussed the section related to education from a recent report on the strategy of Russia’s development by the Centre for Strategic Research. Since investments in education have an effect after 15-20 years, participants analyzed development prospects up to 2035.

How should the state’s economic priorities change? What structural reforms are to take place in the near future? What should be improved in the state control system? Participants at the roundtable discussion ‘The State and Economic Development’ discussed these and other issues as part of the XVIII April Conference at Higher School of Economics (HSE) in Moscow.

At this year’s April Conference on Economic and Social Development, speakers in the first expert discussion on strategies for Russia’s development discussed growth prospects for the Russian economy. The main speaker was Chairman of the Board at the Centre for Strategic Research, Alexei Kudrin.
