Session 'Western Politics and Institutions in New Reality' which took place on the first day of the conference, on the 30th of November 2023 (moderator Galina Nikiporets-Takigawa) brought together scientists from the Department of International Regional Studies, other Departments of WE&IA Faculty, and other major research centers working in the field of research of the ‘world minority’.
Russia and the Mediterranean: Challenges and Prospects in the Energy Sector
The interrelation between the tasks of maintaining peace, preserving sovereignty, and ensuring gas supplies, the role of external players, Russia’s strategy in relation to the energy industries in Mediterranean countries in the changed economic and political context—these and other topics were discussed by the participants of the international scientific conference ‘Russia and the Greater Mediterranean 2023. Balkan Dialogue: What Soft Power Can Do in Tough Times
From 12–16 October 2022, the ‘Balkan Dialogue’ event took place at the Russian House in Belgrade and the Vojvodina Archives in Novi Sad, Serbia. Balkan Dialogue is an international programme organised annually by the Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund. Students and professors from HSE University and other Russian universities were among the participants of the programme. The academic supervisor of the event was Professor Ekaterina Entina, Director of the Mediterranean Studies Centre at the HSE Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs.
Reformatting Research Activity: First Large-Scale Projects Launched at HSE University
Less than a year ago, the Faculty of Humanities at HSE University launched four large-scale projects, bringing together representatives of different disciplines from different departments and campuses of the University. Their goals, content, staffing and expected results were presented at a meeting of the Rector’s Council. Other departments have been tasked with developing their own large-scale projects, which HSE University will be able to include in its application for the ‘Priority 2030’ programme.

Leandro Cassius, a recent graduate from HSE’s Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs, has long been interested in languages and international affairs. He actually started learning Russian on his own when he was 14 years old and still living in his native Brazil. He would later spend a year taking a Russian course at Belgorod State University before being admitted to HSE.
