ICEF Academia Welcomes New Students
Alongside their core curriculum many ICEF students pursue a programme in which they deepen knowledge of their chosen field, engage in scientific debate, and prepare for careers in academia. This programme is known as ICEF Academia and in 2024 it opened its doors to a new group of students.
Earlier in October, the team of ICEF Academia met with its new students to present the teachers, the perspective lines of research, as well as the design and delivery mode of the courses and what rewards there are to celebrate the top-performing students.
From Economic Thinking to Complex Case Solving: ICEF Academia Enters New Season
ChatGPT is unrivaled when it comes to academic paper screening, a routine it performs just seamlessly. But plodding away at routine is not what economists are valued for in the first place. It’s their economic thinking, soft skills, and ability to solve cases even with little verified data at hand. In their recently held opening session 2023, the managers, faculty and students of ICEF Academia spoke about how to gain these qualities and where they are needed most.
"Face-to-face interaction is irreplaceable in academia": HSE and NES teamed up for Microeconomics Workshop
On October 14, ICEF HSE, HSE Faculty of Economic Sciences, and NES hosted a one-day, multiple-session workshop that featured the research being conducted by their scientists. A live streamed event held offline, the workshop proved another confirmation that digital services can never replace face-to-face communication.
‘ICEF Is Doing Everything to Ensure That Scientists Are Engaged in Research, Not Paperwork’
Tatiana Mayskaya, a graduate of Moscow State University (MSU) and the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), began working at HSE University in 2017. She currently teaches courses at ICEF and FES and researches behavioural economics and information economics. In this interview, Ms Mayskaya explains how throwing darts can help in the choice of a PhD programme, how the ‘multi-armed bandit’ phenomenon is useful for business and why HSE is the ideal place to do research.
ICEF Students Praised by Experts for Their Research Endeavors
A springboard to careers in academia for many promising contestants, this year’s Student Research Paper Competition has announced as many as 13 winners – students and graduates of ICEF.
Welcome Aboard: Tenure-Track Introductions
Every year The HSE Look continues its tradition of welcoming newly recruited international faculty via short summaries about their positions and research interests. In the 34th issue we introduce the tenure-track faculty members, and in November you can learn more about post-doctoral researchers who are starting their work at HSE this fall.
