Аннотация
The program of the course builds up the minimum requirements to the knowledge and skills of an PhD student and determines the content and types of classes and assessment. The program is designed for teachers of this discipline, learning assistants and students of political science PhD programs. The course is delivered to the second year PhD students, as a part of their professional development. The course is mandatory. The course is closely tied to the following disciplines: Academic writing in Russian. It is designed to teach knowledge and skills necessary for designing dissertation research. The course is taught in English. But students who are going to write their thesis in Russian can write their papers for this course in Russian, if they wish.
Цель освоения дисциплины
- The course extends the range of doctoral students’ activities related to furthering their research and academic writing. It is focused on the progress of their PhD dissertation research and the on-going problems with implementation of its design.
- The course aims at developing or enhancing the following skills: (1) amending research design of individual PhD projects of doctoral students, (2) reporting progress of the research, simulating presentation at conferences
Планируемые результаты обучения
- Know approaches and methodologies of political science research, with the focus on designing different types of social research
- Know the role of concepts, theories, hypothesis, models in political research
- Know methods of collection and analysis of different types of data
- Be able to implement a research project, including writing articles and abstracts, compiling Power point presentations etc.
- Be able to develop coherent and persuasive argumentation to present research results
- Gain experience in analysis of the texts resulting from political research, professional communication and academic writing
