Course Syllabus

Abstract

Through a wide range of learning activities such as daily dictation, oral and written tests, recalling of conversation, story-telling, dialogue construction, presentations, the course focuses students toward further improving their pronunciation and tones; learning new grammar patterns; and applying the grammar and vocabulary learned. Additionally, the course will integrate Chinese culture into language learning to enhance the understanding of cultural influence on the language.

  • language features of the main Confucian monuments of the classical era
    The main Confucian concepts and concepts: 德 de2 'virtue', 仁 ren2 'human love', 義 and4 'duty', 五 倫 y3 lun2 'five basic relationships', 孝 xiao4' filial piety ', 禮 li3' ritual ', 天命 tien1 min4' heavenly predestination ', 仁政 ren2 zheng4' philanthropic rule ', etc. The concept of government based on a ritual. Early (V - IV centuries BC) and late (2nd half. III century BC) Confucian works of the pre-Qin period. Stable phrases in ancient Chinese political and philosophical literature.
  • Language features of the main legistic monuments
    The structure of the text is “Shang Jun Shu” (“Books of the Ruler of the Shang Region”) and “Han Fei-tzu”. “Han Fei-tzu” as a systematic exposition of the philosophy of legism (法家 fa3 jia1 'school of lawyers'). The basic concepts and concepts of the philosophy of legism: 法 fa3 'law', 勢 shi4 'power', 刑 syn2 'severe punishment', etc.
